Hinkley Point CConnection
On 29th Septemberthe National Grid published the results of their initial consultation on theHinkley Point C Connection. The Preferred Route Corridor has now been selected.
Dr Liam Fox MP said:
""Today’s announcement comes as no surprise as thesecond route was always a non-starter. I have already met with National Grid tomake the case for undergrounding where there are local populations in closeproximity to high voltage lines or in areas of outstanding beauty. The realbattle is just beginning.""
ThePreferred route includes:
RouteCorridor 1, Option 1A for the majority of the connection.
However, Route Corridor 2 has beenselected between:
- Horsey and Woolavington near Bridgwater; and
- Tickenham Ridge and Portishead
And Corridor 1, Option 1B / Corridor 2has been selected between:
- Avonmouth substation and Seabank substation
In addition the existing 132kV WesternPower Distribution (WPD) overhead line between Bridgwater and Avonmouthsubstations will be taken down.
The places that could be most affectedin North Somerset include:
Portbury (Ashlands)
Tickenham
Kenn Moor
Nailsea - West End and North End
Kingston Seymour
Yatton

The next stage of theconsultation will involve environmental surveys on land that might be affected.The National Grid will eventually consult on a final draft proposal along withthe outcome of an environmental assessment, before submitting a formal consentapplication to the Infrastructure Planning Commission in 2013.
