Boundary Changes
On 13th September 2011, the Boundary Commission for England publishedtheir Initial proposals for new Parliamentary constituency boundaries. Thisreview is taking place followinga decision by Parliament to reduce the number of constituencies across the UK. Thiswill reduce the number of constituencies from 533 to 502. As well as this, itwas decided that there should roughly equal numbers of electors in eachconstituency.
Under the current proposals, the boundaries of North Somerset will remainthe same.
Dr Fox said:
“Iam delighted that there is no change in our constituency. It is one of arelatively small number of seats across Britain that is completely unchanged. It results from both the size of our electorate and our geographical position. It will result in minimum disruption for those involved in local politics andfor electoral officials; and is an excellent all round result.”
A review of the initialproposals will take place in 2013. To have your say please visit the BoundaryCommission website:
