To My Constituents,
Firstly, I would like toapologise for my actions, which have led to my recent resignation from myCabinet position as Secretary of State for Defence. The report into allegationsmade against me, published by the Cabinet Office on on Tuesday 18thOctober 2011, found that my actions have resulted in a breach of theMinisterial Code. As I have said, I accept that it was a mistake to allowdistinctions to be blurred between my professional responsibilities and mypersonal loyalty to a friend. I do not blame anyone else for this and I amsorry.
Secondly, I would like tothank so many of you for the overwhelming support that you have shown, in theform of emails, letters and phone calls. It has meant more to me than anyone can know, and I will endeavour to write to each ofyou in turn to express my thanks.
Although I will miss theMinistry of Defence and the fantastic people who work there, my new position onthe back benches (after 17 years on the front bench in Opposition andGovernment) will give me the opportunity to focus my energy on serving NorthSomerset and tackling the challenging issues we face.
Please do not hesitate toget in contact with me.
Yours sincerely,
LIAM FOX
