Dr Liam Fox MP spoke at the Portishead Church of England Men's Breakfast on "A Week in the Life of an MP", looking at the role and responsibilities of an MP in the 21st Century.
He specifically highlighted the four main roles as he saw it of
-
- representing the area
-
- helping constituents who had problems with officials
-
- the role as a legislator
-
- ensuring the issues of the day were debated
He also took questions on a number of varied subjects.
He referred specifically to the campaign against the Pylons, for the Portishead Railway, and his opposition to the Severn Barrage.
He also thought that Parliament should have debated the events in Ukraine.
Michael Wigmore, C of E Portishead Treasurer said that in view of the success of the event, he hoped that Liam would be able to speak to the Women's Breakfast in the autumn. The Church holds 5 Men's and Women's breakfast each year, with a wide variety of speakers.
