New energy support options are being provided by British Gas. A statement from British Gas providing details of these options can be found below:
The “You Pay: We Pay” initiative, set to launch in June is a pioneering initiative that uniquely matches the payments of customers who can afford to contribute towards their energy costs, doubling the impact of their payments for a period of six months. For example, a customer paying £100 a month will see an additional £600 credited to their account by British Gas over the six months, assisting significantly with their energy costs or outstanding balances. We will proactively identify and contact tens of thousands of eligible customers, who will receive this support following an assessment by our specially trained advisors, so customers do not need to apply.
This initiative is part of a broader £140 million support package that British Gas has committed to since the onset of the energy crisis, marking the most extensive voluntary contribution by an energy company in the UK.
The British Gas Energy Trust, funded solely by British Gas, continues its crucial work through three main programmes:
- Debt Relief Grants: Up to £2,000 per household to assist with fuel debts.
- Small Grants Programme: Provides emergency energy vouchers and payments.
- Advice Projects: Over 40 projects offering financial and energy consumption guidance across Britain.
While the "You Pay: We Pay" scheme represents a significant step forward, we understand that affordability remains a crucial issue for many, and it is not the sole solution. Customers facing substantial debts are encouraged to apply for additional aid through the British Gas Energy Trust.
