On May 7th either David Cameron or Gordon Brown will be Prime Minister of this country. That is the choice we face. The outcome will shape Britain for years to come. We need change and hope for the future not more of Labour's failure.
Gordon Brown took billions from the pension funds. He doubled the national debt. He lost £6 billion selling off Britain 's gold. He let 80,000 criminals out early and has created record youth unemployment.
We cannot afford five more years of this. Only a change of government will do. It's your choice. It's your future.
The Change Britain Needs
There are too many targets in health education and policing. We need to set free our doctors and nurses, teachers and police to do what they were trained to do without bureaucratic interference. We must also scrap centrally determined housing targets and give local authorities more powers so that house building is in keeping with the local environment and the ability of public services to cope.
We need to reduce the national debt and start to live within our means. We cannot saddle our country's children with huge debts which would mean higher interest rates and taxes for them. Next year Britain 's interest on Labour's debt will cost us £60 billion in repayments. That is money we could have been spending on schools and hospitals. We will be spending £60 billion on debt interest when our entire defence budget will be only £37 billion.
Labours open door approach to immigration has placed huge pressures on public services and housing. It has helped create a culture of resentment among British people of all ethnic backgrounds. Conservatives will set an annual limit on non-EU economic migration.
Today, too many pensioners are living out their days without the dignity or security they deserve. Gordon Brown raided private pensions, doubled council tax and has done nothing to stop people having to pay for residential care. David Cameron's Pensioner’s pledge has outlined how we can properly support pensioners and address their concerns.
Labour have cut the defence budget four times since coming to office. With our troops fighting in two conflicts that is unforgivable. The cut to the helicopter budget in 2004 meant that more of our troops had to travel by road with all the risks involved. If we send our forces into conflict it is our duty to ensure that they have everything they need to do the job safely and successfully.
We need fresh ideas and energy that only a change of Government can bring. We cannot take five more years of Gordon Brown and Labour’s economic and social failure.
