Liam Fox spoke to the Conservative Party Conference in Manchester on Wednesday 5th September.
He paid tribute to the work of the British Armed Forces and spoke about the measures taken to improve welfare services through the new Tri-Service Armed Forces Covenant. He said:
'We have set up a new Community Covenant scheme where local communitiesare able to bid for £30m of government funding for local projectsconnecting people to the Armed Forces in their communities. In the firstsix weeks alone 31 applications have been made.'
He went on to explain how the economic legacy that Labour left behind meant that he couldn't do as much as he would have hoped saying:
'Sadly, the financial position we inherited means that we cannot go asfar or as fast as we might like in rebuilding the covenant but we havemade a solid start.'
